Members of Our Communities
Our Hometown: Winston-Salem, North Carolina (United States)
Hanesbrands traces its Winston-Salem roots back to 1901, and we have demonstrated our pride in our hometown in many ways over the decades.
United Way of Forsyth County – Hanesbrands and its employees have donated approximately $25 million to the United Way over the past decade, along with countless hours of volunteer work. We have also received United Way’s Spirit Award the past two years for our outstanding employee campaigns.
Arts Council of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County – The Arts Council enriches the quality of life for thousands in Winston-Salem and neighboring communities. Hanesbrands has donated more than $3.5 million to its annual campaigns over the last 10 years, in addition to a $2 million commitment for the construction of the brand new Hanesbrands Theatre.
Business Committee for the Arts – In 2009, Hanesbrands was awarded the BCA 10 award, being named as one of the
10 best companies supporting the arts in the United States. View the full list of winners.
National Black Theatre Festival – In 2009, Hanesbrands was awarded the Marvtastic Philanthropy Award from the National Black Theatre Festival for contributions and continued support of the festival since its inception in 1989.
Community Infrastructure for a Better Quality of Life
We are always looking for creative ways to increase our commitment. One example is our ongoing relationship with Rotary International in Central America. We discovered that there was great value in our scrap material from manufacturing, such as cardboard, plastics and metals. We now donate the material to Rotary International in El Salvador and the organization places the proceeds – approximately $40,000 annually – into a special fund used specifically for community programs.
