In November 2009, Hurricane Ida struck El Salvador, causing floods and mudslides throughout the country. Amidst the aftermath of the hurricane, 274 Hanesbrands employees from our Jiboa and El Pedregal facilities were directly affected by the floods. Many of our employees lost their belongings while others suffered severe damage to their houses. As a result, many sought refuge at government shelters.

Several teams of Hanesbrands employees and doctors immediately stepped in to address the emergency. These relief teams traveled to the affected communities and provided food, water, and medicine to the employees in need of assistance. Hanesbrands also provided new mattresses and additional funds to meet their basic needs.

Health campaigns were also organized with doctors who work in our facilities throughout El Salvador. The doctors visited about 120 affected HBI employees and their families in their communities and provided free medical examinations and medicine.

To repair the damaged homes of our employees, Hanesbrands donated construction materials including bricks, cement, iron, wood, wiring, sand and aluminum sheets.

Within one week, the affected employees in the region were able to return to our Jiboa and El Pedregal facilities.
