Health Spotlight:
Hospital Marchena, Dominican Republic

In August 2007, the Hanesbrands team in the Dominican Republic found an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community by assisting a reconstruction effort at Hospital Pedro de Marchena, the only public hospital in the Bonao area. This medical facility – relied upon by employees of a nearby Hanesbrands textile manufacturing facility and their families – was in need of major repairs, particularly the pediatric and maternity wards.
More than 100 Hanesbrands employees volunteered hundreds of hours to repair the electrical, ventilation and plumbing systems in the hospital wings. The volunteers also renovated the hospital’s kitchen, including making structural improvements to its roof, flooring and walls.
Hanesbrands contributed more than $50,000 to purchase cribs, beds and kitchen equipment, as well as to help provide a working ambulance to the hospital.
The hospital now enjoys a dedicated pediatric room where children can recover more quickly and remodeled childbirth rooms where mothers can receive higher quality, more personalized attention.
The efforts of our employees were honored with an Excellence in Social Responsibility award from the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
