The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. Hanesbrands is a USGBC member and is committed to responsible facility design, construction, and management. We seek LEED certification for newly constructed facilities, major renovations, and some existing buildings. We follow LEED guidelines for new construction, and we employ LEED-based operational practices, such as the installation of energy-efficient light fixtures, low-impact cleaning and pest-control chemicals, and thermal processes that recapture energy.

  • We achieved LEED certification for our flagship retail outlet store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and for our sales office in Bentonville, Arkansas. The retail store participated in the LEED for Retail pilot program and is among the first retail stores in the United States to achieve this specialized LEED certification.
  • Our 1.3-million-square-foot distribution center in Perris, California, the largest facility in our worldwide supply chain by square footage was, upon certification in February 2010, the largest single free-standing LEED New Construction certified warehouse/distribution building in the world.
  • We are pursuing LEED Gold certification for our new El Salvador Socks facility. It will be one of the first LEED-certified apparel manufacturing facilities in the world.
  • Our newest Winston-Salem headquarters building was the first project in North Carolina registered with LEED for Existing Buildings – an extremely challenging LEED category. Upon receiving certification, it will be among only 500 buildings that have earned this honor, out of five million existing U.S. buildings.
  • Our Nanjing, China, textile facility has been built to LEED standards, and we will apply for its certification. We expect it to be one of the largest LEED-certified facilities in China, and one of the first LEED-certified fabric textile manufacturing plants in the world.

  • Two new facilities – our sales office in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a sewing facility in Phu Bai, Vietnam – will be built according to LEED standards, and we will pursue their certification.
